LPDC’s Chairman held discussions on the introduction of Biometric Identification Cards

The Lebanese Palestinian Dialogue Committee (LPDC), chaired by Ambassador Ramez Dimechkie, met at the Grand Serail on the 6th of August 2025, to revisit and advance discussions on the introduction of Biometric Identification Cards for Palestinian refugees residing in Lebanon, with the goal of replacing the dated “blue cards” currently in use.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders, from the Ministry of Interior, including the Directorate of Political and Refugees Affairs (DPAR), and representatives from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), to share insights and reaffirm their commitment to the project.

Discussions focused on the technical and logistical aspects of the biometric cards, including design options, security features, validity, fabrication, and implementation mechanisms.

The biometric ID initiative, long hindered by administrative and logistical challenges, has now emerged as a top priority for LPDC and its partners. It is seen as a critical step toward ensuring greater inclusivity, improving access to services, and enhancing the overall livelihood for Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.
