Conclusion of the Advisory Commission on UNRWA in Amman, Jordan

The Advisory Commission on UNRWA concluded its two-day meeting in Amman, Jordan. Participating donors and host countries, alongside international bodies, commended Lebanon’s role as Chair of the Advisory Committee and in developing a new work-plan and strategy going forward. LPDC Chairman Dr. Bassel Al Hassan, served as chair of the Committee.

In a tripartite meeting with UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, Dr. Al Hassan discussed key strategies for developing the role of the Advisory Committee and issues related to Palestinian refugees. During the meeting, they discussed new prospects for the region and Jordan’s pivotal in supporting and following up on the Palestinian cause.

On the margins of the Commission, Dr. Al Hassan met with US Assistant Secretary of state for the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration, Julieta Valls Noyes; alongside the heads of delegations from Germany, the United Kingdom, the European Union and the Arab host countries to strengthen partnerships with the international community and international donors.

International officials commended Lebanon’s achievements as Chair of the Advisory Committee, for its role in maintaining communication with international partners, donors, and hosts, in proposing new communication strategies and courses of action, and in pushing for different platforms to support regional stability.
