Mneymneh and UN Special Coordinator in Lebanon discussed ways for supporting Palestinian refugees’ issues
The Chairman of the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee (LPDC) Dr. Hasan Mneymneh and the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Jan Kubis stressed the importance of a concrete cooperation between the United Nations Office in Lebanon and the Committee on the issues of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and their conditions of life.
In a meeting at the headquarters of the Committee in the Grand Serail, Kibus was briefed on the tasks and role of the Committee in relation to Palestinian refugee issues in Lebanon. He discussed with Mneymneh the latest developments and challenges facing the region from the “Deal of the Century” to the “Manama Workshop” and the financial crisis facing the UNRWA agency.
LPDC chairman explained the dangers of the suspension of UNRWA from carrying out its duties, the burdens borne by Lebanon as well as the Lebanese and Palestinian fears of Palestinian refugees’ settlement in host countries, including Lebanon.
UN Special Coordinator in Lebanon affirmed that the Palestinian Refugees issue is a priority for him, especially in the light of recent developments. He welcomed the joint Lebanese-Palestinian position on Palestinian refugee issues in Lebanon, which was recently issued.
Both sides stressed the importance of supporting UNRWA, to ensuring continued quality services to Palestine refugees, as well as the need to respect the interests of host Lebanese communities. They agreed on the need of discussing ways for a concreate cooperation between the UN Office in Lebanon and the Committee on the issues of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and their conditions of life.
